PORT ANGELES – Some disturbing behavior along Highway 101 at the Black Diamond Road overpass in Port Angeles has police warning drivers to be alert.

On Wednesday, at least two vehicles were struck by a rock or other heavy object thrown from the overpass by an as-yet unknown person. Minor injuries were reported, and one car had to be towed away because the windshield was so badly damaged.

Police took two reports of incidents that occurred between 3:00 and 5:00 Wednesday afternoon.

Here’s Police Chief Brian Smith.

“To me, this is very serious behavior. The consequences of getting caught are substantial. Anybody that sees anything, anybody that knows anything, anybody that’s picked up on the social media chatter, Instagram, Facebook, whatever, call the Port Angeles Police Department. Maintain situational awareness, of course. In general, when people drive, they don’t look up at a bridge to see what’s up there. But it’s a good idea to do that. And if something happens, if a rock hits your vehicle from the bridge, that’s a 911 call. So, we understand that some people can’t call us right away, but if we can get an immediate call, we can get to the area and, you know, possibly apprehend somebody.”
