PORT ANGELES – A 15-year-old Port Angeles boy sustained serious injuries Tuesday night after losing control of his bicycle while going downhill and slamming into a moving pickup truck.
Police say they got the call around 10:00pm collision at the intersection of Lauridsen Blvd. and Francis Street. They say the boy was riding his bike north from the top of Francis down the hill to Lauridsen and was not able to stop at the stop sign.
Crossing Lauridsen, he struck a passing Chevy Silverado driven by a resident of the Sequim area. Police say there was no indication that the driver of the pickup violated any traffic laws.
The bicyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was seriously injured. After being helped by community members, medical personnel transported him by ambulance to Olympic Medical Center, and then flown to Harborview in Seattle.
No update on the condition of the patient is available at this time. The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Port Angeles Police Department in the ongoing investigation.
