SPOKANE — There will be a lot of stars shining brightly this Saturday in Spokane. Among those shining starts will be the red & black of the Neah Bay Red Devils and the purple and gold of the Sequim Wolves, as a total of 8 Red Devils and Wolves will participate in the East -West All State girls basketball games.
The 1B-2B All State game will tip off at 1:30 pm with the 1A-2A All State game tipping off at 3:30 pm at the Hub Sports Center in Spokane. Both games will be broadcast live on KONP and on the stream at myclallamcounty.com.
The 1B west squad will be coached by Neah Bay Head Coach Cherish Moss. Moss, a former Peninsula Pirate, led the Pirates to the 2015 NWAC Championship. Moss led her Red Devils to a State Championship back in March and brings four of her Red Devils with her younger sisters Cerise and Ryana Moss continue the Red Devil-Moss basketball legacy with Ryana, a 5’7″ junior; and Cerise a 5’6″ freshman. Amber Swan is a barnacle-tough 5’8″ junior and 5’7 guard Angel Halttunen might be the best all-around 1B freshman in the state.

In the class 1A-2A game, the Sequim have 3 athletes suiting up for the West squad. Point guard Hannah Bates and Post Jelissa Julmist are both heading to Peninsula College to play for the NWAC power Pirates. Junior Jolene Vaara, one of the top all around 2A athletes in the state, averaged 17 points per game for the Wolves and will be forever remembered for her half court steal and layup with a minute left. The play propelled the Wolves’ last-second shot by Hannah Bates to knock off Othello for the 4th place trophy at the state tournament.
