Here’s the Monday update on the Lake Sutherland fire

Port Angeles – We have the latest from state fire officials on the Lake Sutherland fire, burning 13 miles west of Port Angeles.

The wind driven fire, which started on Saturday at around 1 p.m. in steep, rugged terrain has burned at least 108 acres as of late this morning.

The fire is under investigation at this time, and a Temporary Flight Restriction remains in place over the fire.

Local resources with the Washington Department of Natural Resources have aggressively been fighting the fire over the last two days using both fire crews on the ground and air operations dropping water and retardant over the fire area.

Firefighters will spend the day assessing the fire activity, scouting the area looking for potential safety hazards and safe access to and from the fire. Public and firefighter safety is the highest priority on the Sutherland Fire.

On Sunday, four homes were placed under a Level 2 Evacuation. As of 6:00 this morning the evacuation level was changed to a Level 1, which says you should “Be alert and stay aware of the danger that exists in your area; evacuations are voluntary.”

LEVEL 2 means to “BE READY: Significant danger to your area; leave voluntarily or be ready at a moment’s notice.

LEVEL 3 says to “LEAVE IMMEDIATELY: Danger to your area is current or imminent.”
