CLALLAM COUNTY – You may have noticed fireworks booths popping up around the community. Sale of consumer fireworks begins this Wednesday at noon and ends on Wednesday, July 5 at 9:00 p.m.
The Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office reports they issued licenses for 552 retail fireworks stands this year; up slightly from last year.
The State Fire Marshal encourages those who buy fireworks this year to enjoy them safely and responsibly. The cities of Port Angeles and Sequim have banned the discharge of fireworks within city limits, but both cities will be hosting a fireworks display on the Fourth of July. Fireworks are prohibited in Olympic National Park, as well.
As for the rest of Clallam County, some fireworks are allowed, but the exact times you can use them differs from one side of the Elwha to the other. West of the river, discharge periods match those statewide, starting Wednesday and going through July 5. East of the Elwha, fireworks will now only be allowed from 9 a.m. until midnight on July 4.
