Travelers, be aware of these upcoming culvert projects on HWY 101

QUILCENE – Travelers along the Hood Canal on Highway 101 in Jefferson County should take note of a culvert-replacement detour beginning Monday and lasting for 22 days.

Beginning at 9 a.m. this coming Monday, 101 will close a few miles north of Quilcene from Leland Valley Road to Leland Cut Off Road. The road will remain closed until 7 p.m. Monday, August 21.

Traffic will be detoured onto Center Road, however, commercial vehicles will not be able to use this detour because of weight restrictions. Big rigs will have to detour between State Route 3 in Shelton and the Hood Canal Bridge.

The closure is needed while contractor crews replace culverts at two tributaries that feed into Leland Creek, to allow for fish migrations.

And don’t forget, closer to home, the first of a multi-year project to correct six culverts under 101 in Clallam County will take place at Eagle Creek, which is right about the midpoint between Knapp Road and Diamond Point Road east of Sequim.

That will be a week-long, around-the-clock reduction to a single lane going around the work site from August 13-18.
