Voters narrow races for PA Council, Sequim School Board

PORT ANGELES – In primary election results from last night, a Port Angeles incumbent city council member easily advanced in a primary election for her seat.

Navarra Carr took nearly 57 percent of the vote in yesterday’s primary. She will take on Mark Karjalainen in the general election. Karjalainen received about 33 percent of the vote. Nicholas Merrigan was eliminated in the primary, getting about ten percent.

In contested primary races for Sequim School Board, incumbent board member Larry Jeffryes won about 52 percent of the vote and will be challenged by John Graham in the general election. Graham received about 29 percent.

Maren Halvorsen received 62 percent of the vote in another race and will take on Derek Huntington who garnered about 21 percent to finish second.

A third primary finds incumbent Michael Rocha receiving about 44 percent of the vote and will take on Sandra Kellso who received about 36 percent.

Voter turnout in Clallam County was just under 32 percent as of ballots that were counted in the first-round last night. Another round of ballots will be out late this afternoon.
