PA residents, sign up now to get a free shade tree to plant in your yard

PORT ANGELES – – The city of Port Angeles has launched the “City Shade” Street Tree Program, an initiative developed by community member Paul Forrest in partnership with the City of Port Angeles.

As part of this program, residents of Port Angeles may apply online to request a free tree for planting both at private properties and within the City right-of-way.

The “City Shade Program” aims to increase the tree canopy in our community by planting trees in low, medium and high-density residential neighborhoods. This strategic initiative supports the growth of our urban forest and aligns with the City’s long-term sustainability and Climate Resiliency Plan goals.

Approximately 100 trees grown at the City Shade Nursery became available for planting on Tuesday. The species available include English Oak, Golden Rain and Japanese Pagoda Tree.

The 2023 City Shade Program application period is now open. City residents may apply online to request a free tree to plant at their home or within the City right-of-way. Those interested may also apply to participate in the program as a volunteer.
