LOCAL SPORTS: PC soccer splits against Everett; PA tennis wins

PORT ANGELES — It was good news, bad news for the Peninsula Pirates soccer teams as they opened up NWAC Northern Conference play hosting Everett.

The #1-ranked Pirate Women played like they are #1 blowing out Everett 11-0. The Pirates were led by former Roughrider Anna Petty who scored 2 goals.

Former PA Roughrider Anna Petty is already a Pirate force in the NWAC.

The Pirates out shot Everett 28-2 for the game and held a 7-0 halftime lead. The Pirates are 6-0 on the season and will travel to Whatcom Saturday with the kickoff at Noon.

The 3rd ranked Pirate men lost a heart breaker to Everett 3-2. Abdurahim Leigh and Mathew Enriquez scored the Pirate goals. The Pirates take on Whatcom in Bellingham on Saturday at 2:15 pm.

In high school tennis action, Brian Gundersen’s Port Angeles Roughriders went to Bremerton and blanked the Knights 7-0. In singles action Nathan Basden won 6-4, 6-4. Matthew Miller won 6-2, 6-2. C.J. Elliott won 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles, Luke Flodstrom and Tate Allen won 7-5, 6-1. Reid Schmidt and Keaton Hoch won 6-3, 6-0. Austin Worthington and Grant Butterworth won 6-3, 6-1. Garret Buerer and Parab Seera won 6-2, 7-5.

The Roughriders are at Olympic on Monday. We will have a preview of the Roughrider tennis team this Friday night on our Roughrider half time VIP show. We will talk to Nathan Basden and Head Coach Brian Gundersen.

Speaking of Roughrider football, Port Angeles will face one of the top 10 running backs in the state Friday night when they will try to round up Seahawk 6’1″ 167 lb. junior Brock Beaner. Beaner runs a 4.47 second 40-yard dash and last year rushed for 1308 yards on 167 carries and 19 TDs. Kickoff is set for 7 pm Friday night, the Newsradio KONP pre-game show will start at 6:45 pm.

The Port Angeles Roughrider volleyball team was swept by Sammamish 3-0 Wednesday.
