LOCAL SPORTS: High school cross country, tennis and swimming results

PORT ANGELES — The Roughrider tennis team continues its domination of the Olympic League by manhandling always-tough Bainbridge 6-1. The Roughriders have now won 20 of their 21 matches in their first 3 league contests. In singles action, Nathan Basden won 7-5; 6-3. Matthew Miller won 6-3; 6-3. C.J. Elliott won 6-4; 6-1. In doubles action, Luke Flodstrom and Tate Alton lost 4-6; 0-6. Keatyn Hoch and Reid Schmidt won 4-6; 6-2; 6-4. Austin Worthington and Grant Butterworth won 6-0; 7-6. Carter Gundersen and Carston Seibel won 6-3; 6-1.

The Roughriders have a big contest at home Monday with North Kitsap.

In the Olympic League cross country meet in Silverdale, the Roughrider boys placed 5th while the Roughrider girls placed 4th. The Roughrider boys did not have any individuals crack the top 15, but for the girls Leia Larson placed 8th and Miriam Cobb placed 11th. Dawn Holstedt of Sequim placed 5th.

There’s high school football action tonight as the Sequim Wolves travel to Bainbridge to take on the 2-0 Spartans. The game will be broadcast live on Newsradio KONP and on the web at myclallamcounty.com. Sequim A.D. Craig Brooks and Wolf team members Ayden Holland and Charlie Grider will be featured on the pre-game show that starts at 6 pm with the kickoff set at 7 pm. Oly Archibald and Greg Thomas will have the play by play.

In swimming, the Roughriders competed well against Class 3A powerhouse Bainbridge but came up short on the scoreboard 131-54. The Roughriders still had a few great individual times. Harper McGuire placed 2nd in the 100 back stroke and 2nd in the 200 Free style. Lizzy Shaw placed 2nd in the 50 Free style. Lynzee Reid placed 3rd in the 500 Free style.

In diving, Yau Fu placed 1st and Lynzee Reid placed 2nd.

In soccer action tonight Sequim will host Port Angeles at 6:45 and in Volleyball action Sequim travels to Port Angeles with the first serve at 6:45 pm.
