KINGSTON — The Port Angeles Roughriders football team unleashed a barrage of super charged defenders and explosive offensive lineman to blow out a very undermanned Kingston team 63-0. The Roughriders lead at the half 49-0.
It took the Roughriders just 4 plays to go 41 yards for their first touchdown. Parker Nickerson found a wide-open Blake Sohlberg on a seam route for a 27 yard pick up to the Kingston 14-yard line. Nickerson then found Kaiden Point in the Right corner of the end zone for the touchdown. The PAT by Sohlberg was good. Sohlberg was 7 for 7 on the night with the PATs.
The Roughriders scored on another seam route to Blake Sohlberg for a 37-yard TD to make the score 14-0.
Jason Hawes scored on a 3-yard run with 11:13 left in the half for the 21-0 lead.
On the next Kingston possession, Roughrider Defensive lineman Jordan Shumway made an “ESPN play of the day” when he intercepted an intended screen pass at the Kingston 18-yard line. Kason Albaugh scored on an 8-yard run for the 28-0 lead.
Roughrider linebacker Jason Hawes recovered a Kingston fumble at their 23-yard line. James Browning scored from 3 yards out giving the Roughriders a 35-0 lead with 8:16 left in the half.
Roughrider QB Parker Nickerson then went back to a seam route but this time it was TE Ezra Townsend for a 29-yard touchdown to make the score 42 – 0. Jason Hawes ended the first half scoring with a 15-yard TD run for a 49-0 halftime lead.
With just a few seconds left in the 3rd quarter Landon Jones scored on a 45-yard run. Alejandro Martinez Jr hit the first of his 2 PATs for a 56-0 lead.
With 5:53 left in the game Dylan Mann ran a tough 10 yards for the final touchdown to make the final score 63-0. The Roughriders have now clinched the 3rd district playoff spot and have a 4-2 league record and are 5-3 overall. All three losses were to teams that at one point were all ranked in the top 7 in the state.
The Roughriders will next host a struggling North Mason team that is only scoring 9 points per game. Next, Friday night will be Senior night for the Roughriders with a 6:30 pm kickoff in a game you will hear on KONP.
