In football action Friday night, the 6-3 Port Angeles Roughriders open the district playoffs at 7-2 Franklin Pierce. If you like the way Bremerton runs the ball, you will love the Cardinals full-house backfield, power running attack led by a magician at quarterback. Now you see the ball now you don’t, as the Cardinals run a two tight-end set with all three running backs lining up in a “T” formation. Quarterback Sam Foust, a well-built 6’3″ 180-pound senior, uses his ball-hiding skills in running quick inside counters or keeps the ball. The offense is especially hard on radio announcers trying to call the play by play because, where the ball is; is anyone’s guess. Like Bremerton, the Cardinals are led by 3 impressive running backs who have great yards per carry averages. The lead running back is Christian Goode, a 5’10” 190-pound senior. Goode has 876 yards rushing on 121 carries for an average of 7.2 yards per carry and 15 touchdowns. When quarterback Sam Foust keeps the ball, he averages 8.3 yards per carry with 5 touchdowns. Foust has only thrown 9 passes all year completing 5 of them for 92 yards and 3 touchdowns.
On defense, the Cardinals are led by Zeke Isaacson a 5’11” 200-pound sophomore. Isaacson led the Cardinals in tackles with 7.2 per game, has 8 tackles for loss and 3 sacks. Outside linebacker Ethan Laloula, a 6’2″ 220-pound junior, is the Cardinals sack leader.
The Roughriders average 36 points per game and give up 23 points per game. The Cardinals average 35 points per game and give up just 12 points per game.
