Public donations get Hurricane Ridge webcams back online

PORT ANGELES – We learned on Thursday that, thanks to a generous donation from Washington’s National Park Fund, both of the Hurricane Ridge webcams have been restored. The essential tools for winter trip planning and weather watching are live on Olympic National Park’s website (click here).

Washington’s National Park Fund is the official philanthropic partner to Olympic National Park, as well as Mount Rainier and North Cascades National Parks. Their website says, through public fundraising, they fund scientific research, youth and family experiences, and projects that will keep these parks strong and vital now and forever, for everyone.

A news release says they organized a Fire Relief Fund in the wake of the Hurricane Ridge Day Lodge fire to support restoration projects. When the lodge caught fire on May 7, utility systems, including those supporting the webcam, were critically damaged. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
