UNDATED — There was plenty of basketball for hoops fans over the weekend and it was the 9th ranked Peninsula Pirates women who earned the headlines with three hard-earned wins at the Blue Mountain Crossover Tournament in Pendleton, Oregon.
The 9th ranked Pirates, now 7-2, beat hometown Blue Mountain 64-62 and Chemeketa 75-39. Then in a well-played game against 7th-ranked Green River, the Pirates won 63-59.
Freshman Shania Moanunu has become the Pirates clutch performer. Moanunu averaged 12 points per game in the 3 games and had a game high of 18 against Blue Mountain. Former Sequim Wolf Jelessa Julmist had a solid tournament and a big-time performance against 7th ranked Green River by scoring 12 points and pulling down 5 boards. Against Blue Mountain Julmist pulled down 12 rebounds.
Former Neah Bay Red Devil Allie Green had a great tournament averaging 9 points per game with game highs of 12 and 11 points.

Former Neah Bay State player of the year Allie Greene hit for 12 points against Chemeketa and 11 points against 7th ranked Green River.

Former Sequim star Jelessa Julmist had a solid tournament with a game high of 12 points against Green River and pulled down 12 rebounds against against Blue Mountain
The Pirates are off until December 30th when they travel to Evergreen State college in Olympia.

The Pirate men went 1-2 at the Pirate crossover tournament. The Pirates lost to Umpqua 85-74, beat Blue Mountain 71-56 and lost to Green River 78-56. The Pirates are off until January 6th when they travel to Highline.

In high school action, the Sequim Wolves girls are a hot ticket getting 2 wins over the weekend. The Wolves (3-1) knocked off North Kitsap 56-40 and then took the ferry to Anacortes and picked up their 2nd win 50-32. The Wolves now have a big non-league match up on the road with the defending 1B state champion Neah Bay Red Devils Wednesday night at 6 pm. You can hear that game live on KONP Newsradio.

It was a tough Friday night for the 3-3 Sequim Wolves boys as they lost to North Kitsap 81-49.

The 5-2 Port Angeles Roughrider girls lost at Peninsula 57-43. The Roughriders will now travel to Neah Bay tomorrow night with a 6 pm tip off, you can hear that game right here on KONP Newsradio.

They are calling it the biggest upset in school history at Neah Bay as the Red Devils Boys basketball team upset Port Angeles 57-55 Saturday night. The 3-2 Roughriders will now host WF West tomorrow and Wednesday night host Enumclaw one of the top-rated teams in the state.
It’s been reported that the Roughriders called a players-only meeting last night.
