PORT ANGELES –There is NWAC basketball action tonight as the Peninsula Pirates host Bellevue. In the women’s game, the 5th-ranked Pirates (2-0; 9-2) take on an always tough Bulldog team that is 1-1 in conference and 6-11 overall.
The Pirates are getting solid production from their three local recruits. Former Neah Bay Red Devil Allie Greene is coming off the bench averaging 8 points per game, shooting 43% from the field, 40% from the three-point stripe and 71% from the line. Greene hit for 13 points in the win Saturday at Edmonds and has been hitting double digits the last few games.

Former Sequim Wolf Jelissa Julmist continues to improve and is a solid starter. Julmist is averaging 6 points per game, 6 rebounds per game and is averaging 16 minutes a game. Former Sequim Wolf Hannah Bates is averaging 8 minutes a game behind a very deep and talented Pirate backcourt. Bates hit for 5 points against Edmonds and is shooting 62% from the line.
The Pirate women tip off at 5 pm tonight.
The Pirate men tip off at 7 pm tonight and are 1-1 in conference play and 8-8 overall. The Bulldogs are 1-1 and 12-5 overall.
Former Roughrider Wyatt Dunning is having an outstanding year for the Pirate men.. Dunning, a full-time starter, is averaging 8 points per game; playing 22 minutes per game; shooting 47% from the field; 39% from the three-point stripe and 100% from the line.

In high school action tonight, Sequim will try to get their doubleheader in with Bainbridge tonight. The boys are scheduled to tip off at 5:15 and the girls at 7.
The Roughrider games with Bremerton have been rescheduled for February 8th.
The Roughrider boys are scheduled to play at North Mason tomorrow. KONP Newsradio will carry that broadcast.

In NFL news, former Port Angeles Roughrider Joel Thomas is leaving the New Orleans Saints after 8 seasons to be the running back coach for the New York Giants. The Giants asked for permission from the Saints to interview Thomas and Thomas accepted the offer to join the Giants staff.
