PORT ANGELES — In NWAC basketball action last night, the Peninsula Pirates took both games as both Pirate teams shot the lights out.
The 4th-ranked Peninsula Pirate women (3-0; 10-2) blew out Bellevue 80-46. The Pirates jumped out to a 44-18 halftime lead by shooting a red hot 58% from the field and the 3-point stripe. Lainey Suaava; the freshman from Palmer, Alaska; had the best game in her career hitting for 14 points and pulling down 5 rebounds. Ciera Agasiva scored 13 points. Former Neah Bay Red Devil Allie Greene scored 9 points and had 4 steals. Shania Moanunu hit for 8 points as did former Sequim Wolf Hannah Bates.
Once again, Pirate Head Coach Allison Crumb and her staff have done another incredible rebuild. The Pirates roster was gutted last year and with two of the top players in Pirates history now playing D1 and D2 basketball. The Pirates start four freshman and as usual the Pirates have improved greatly since the start of the season. The Pirates will host Olympic Saturday at 2:00.
The Pirate men (3-1; 10-8) were just as hot last night with a big win over 8th ranked Bellevue 89-71. The hot shooting Pirates raced out to a 46-39 halftime lead by shooting 52% from the field and a sizzling 45% from the 3 pt stripe. Javon Ervin led the Pirates with 27 points with 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Ese Onakpoma hit for 25 points while pulling down 5 rebounds. Aiden Olmstead, the former North Kitsap Viking had a great night hitting for 14 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.
The Pirates host Olympic Saturday at 4:00. Like the women’s team the Pirate men had a huge roster turnover and 1st year Head Coach Bryce Jacobsen and his staff have done a great job turning the Pirates into a Northern conference contender.

Peninsula Pirate 1st-year men’s coach Bryce Jacobsen has the Pirates surprisingly contending for a upper tier position in the tough Northern Conference
