BELFAIR — The Port Angeles Roughriders boys basketball team went on the road to Belfair and came away with a 73-58 win in a game you heard on KONP.

It was a much more competitive game than the one played back on December 12th when the Roughriders won 92-57. 2 big reasons why this game was much closer, Kasey Ulin played a lot of his bench early and often gave his younger players valuable playing time. Also,  give credit to the Bulldogs who shot the ball well hitting 12 three-point shots.

The Roughriders led after one quarter 19-12 and 39-25 at the half.

Parker Nickerson led the Roughriders with 23 points hitting 5 three-point shots. Isaiah Shamp scored 18 points. Dallas Dunning was outstanding with 13 points and cleaning house on the boards. As always Ezra Townsend came off the bench and gave Ulin some great minutes, scoring 7 points.

Kason Albaugh also hit the boards hard and scored 8 points. Although he scored just 2 points, point guard Gus Halberg did a great job running the Roughriders up-tempo offense and finding the open man for easy buckets. The Roughriders are now 6-2 in league and 10-4 overall. The Roughriders, ranked 12th in yesterday Associated Press poll, will travel to 14th-ranked Renton on Saturday. Of the top 15 ranked teams in the state, 7 are in the district so the district tournament is shaping up to be very competitive.

You can hear the Riders against Renton tomorrow game right here on KONP Newsradio at 4:45 for the pregame

Tonight the Sequin Wolves boys travel to 7th ranked Bremerton with a tip off time of 7:00. You can hear that game here on KONP Newsradio.

On Saturday the Wolves host Bainbridge at 5 pm.

In girls basketball action, the Roughriders beat North Mason last night 37-26.

The Sequim Wolves host Bremerton tonight at 7:00 and tomorrow the Wolves will host Bainbridge at 3:15.

In the Olympic league bowling tournament yesterday, the Roughriders placed 2 bowlers that qualified for the District tournament. Paige Pangaro averaged a 154 and placed 6th. Abby Robinson averaged a 149 and placed 7th. Zoey Van Gordon averaged a 125 and will be a alternate.

In NWAC basketball action, the Peninsula Pirates will host a doubleheader tomorrow. At 2 pm the 5th ranked Pirate Women will tip off against Olympic. The men will tip off at 4 pm.

Former Sequim Wolf Jelissa Julmist is having a solid freshman season as a starter for the Pirates. The 5th ranked Pirates host Olympic tomorrow at 2 pm
