PORT ANGELES – An unfortunate incident at Peninsula College Thursday night interrupted the Winter Jazz Concert in Maier Hall.
During the performance, which featured students from Peninsula College and Port Angeles High School, a wooden acoustic tile fell 20 feet from the ceiling and hit two of the performers.
We spoke with the college’s Aimee Gordon.
“So, one performer was with the high school and one performer was with Peninsula College. Of course, we had our EMS and campus safety were called immediately Suzi Ames, our President, has reached out to the family to find out how that student is doing at the high school, but we haven’t heard back from them.”
Gordon said staff are shocked that this could happen in what is one of the college’s newer facilities, but maintenance crews are going to do a thorough check of the rest of the ceiling.
“And so, they on Monday are going to be spending all day checking every panel in the auditorium to make sure that they’re safe, and we certainly will not allow any activity to take place in that Performing Arts Center until we’ve investigated everything, and make sure that nothing’s going to be falling down again.”
