PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles schools will be closed again on Tuesday.
The school district and paraeducators still have not reached an agreement on a new contract. The paraeducators went on strike Monday and the strike moves into a second day. The teachers union is honoring the picket lines. The paras have been working without a contract since August of last year.
The paras are seeking a 3.7 percent cost of living wage increase that teachers received last year. District officials say there has been no state allotment to cover the paraeducators’ request and the district cannot sustain a pay raise over additional years.
Both sides met on Monday another session is set for Tuesday.
The district will again provide free meals for all students. They can be picked up at Dry Creek and Hamilton between 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m; and Jefferson, Franklin, and Roosevelt: 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
All extracurricular and sports activities will continue as planned Tuesday.
