LOCAL SPORTS: Sequim and PA in epic links battle

PORT ANGELES — In girls’ golf action, two really good Sequim and Port Angeles teams went down to the wire with the Wolves getting the 184 – 201 win.

For the Wolves, Emily Post again is having a great season, blowing up the course shooting a 42. Soccer star Taryn Johnson shot a 46, as did Kendra Dodson. Ava Johnson shot a 50. Raimey Brewer shot a 52 and Chloe Tweter shot a 58.

The Roughriders were led by Malena Marquez who shot a 49. Lauryn Chapman and Claire Osterberg both shot 50s. Mia Neff shot a 52. Autumn Wilson-Rowland shot a 55 and Izzy Spencer shot a 67.

Golf fans did not have to go to the Masters in Augusta to see great golf. The Port Angels boys and Sequim Wolves both shot their lowest scores of the season with the Roughriders winning by 22 strokes 157-179.

Forget Tiger Woods! Nate Anderson shot a red hot 35. Reid Schmidt shot a 39. Sky Gelder shot a 41. Cale Wentz shot a 42. Max Gagnon shot a 43 and Kolby Charles shot a 47.

For Sequim, the two Wolves football stars had the hot clubs. Adrian Aragon shot a 38 and Lars Wiker shot a 41. Cody Dunscomb shot a 47. Joey King shot a 53. Ryan Stites shot a 59 and Levi Breithaupt shot a 57.

In girls fast pitch action Olympic beat Sequim 11-3 and Port Angeles beat Kingston 4-1.

Ava Anne Sheahan had a big play hitting a 2-run home run. Natalie Robinson had a double. Kennedy Rognlien had a single and an RBI. Lexie Smith had a single and an RBI. Abby Kimball had a single.

Heidi Leitz earned the win going 7 innings with 9 strike outs.

There is soccer action tonight. Sequim travels to North Mason and Port Angeles travels to Kingston. Both games kickoff at 6:45.

The Port Angeles Roughriders baseball team is in action tonight and Saturday. Both games will be broadcast here on KONP Newsradio.

Tonight the 9-3 Roughriders travel to Sequim to take on the 4-5 Wolves. The Roughriders beat Sequim 4-2 last Tuesday night. The first pitch is at 4:15.

On Saturday it’s a great non-league match up as the Roughriders host the Bellevue Wolverines of the ultra-tough 3A Kingco league. The Wolverines are 5-8 and are led by Sophomore outfielder Ellis Oeltjen who leads the Wolverines in hitting with a .447 batting average.

The Wolverines are coached by Craig Parthemer who has coached for over 25 years. Parthemer played for the Washington Huskies winning a PAC 10 Northern Championship. Parthemer has coached 5 former Major league players including Tim Lincecum and Jason Hummel. Parthemer has also coached 27 former player drafted by Major League Baseball.

The first pitch is at 1:00, the KONP Newsradio pre-game show starts at 12:45.
