PASD and Paraeducators reach labor settlement

PORT ANGELES — Students in the Port Angeles School District (PASD) will return to school on schedule Monday, April 15, following a successful round of negotiations between the district and the Port Angeles Paraeducators Association (PAPEA).

After an intensive day of bargaining on Sunday, both parties reached a tentative agreement on a new contract, guided by a mediator’s recommendations. The breakthrough comes after schools were shut down for five days last week due the strike by the paraeductors. Teacher also honored the picket lines.

In a prepared media release Sunday evening, the district expressed gratitude toward the families, students, staff, and community members for their patience and support during the negotiations. Details of the contract agreement have not yet been released, but the resolution allows schools to operate without interruption as the details are finalized.
