Clallam County Correctional Facility Nurse Saves Inmates Life

by Amanda Bacon

In a dramatic turn of events at the Clallam County Correctional Facility, Nurse Wallenfang’s swift response during a routine medication pass averted a potential tragedy.

On April 30, 2024, Nurse Wallenfang was administering medications to inmates when she noticed stroke-like symptoms in an elderly inmate. Realizing the gravity of the situation, she wasted no time in calling for assistance from Corrections Deputies to transfer the inmate to the medical cell.

Despite the rapid deterioration of the inmate’s condition, Nurse Wallenfang, alongside her colleague jail nurses, managed to stabilize the individual. Port Angeles Fire Department paramedics swiftly arrived on the scene and transported the inmate to Olympic Medical Center for urgent treatment.

Fortunately, due to the timely response and expert care provided by Nurse Wallenfang and the medical responders, the inmate is expected to make a full recovery.

This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the critical role that healthcare professionals play in safeguarding the well-being and health of those under their care, even in the challenging environment of a correctional facility. It underscores the importance of vigilance and quick action in addressing medical emergencies, ultimately saving lives.
