Beer run set to help local veterans

PORT ANGELES – A first-of-its-kind fundraiser is coming to the Port Angeles waterfront this week.

The Red, White and Brews Beer Run Wednesday July 3rd will benefit local veterans. It’s essentially a chance to drink a couple of beers and go for a run or walk. Kris Pennell is organizing the event.

“Yes, this is Port Angeles’ first beer run event. Barhop Brewing Port Angeles has been so gracious to donate their patio as well as the beer for this event. But essentially you drink one large beer and then you run a mile and then come back and drink one more, than its complete,” said Pennel. “If you want to walk that mile, you can. If you want to jog it or run it that’s fine. Also, it’s just really more about the cause and the charity than the competition. It’s just a fun and semi healthy way to get everyone involved.”

The cost is $40 per person. That gets you two drinks and admission to the festivities that will include a raffle after the run on the patio at Barhop Brewing on Railroad Avenue.

Pennell says all the money raised stays in Clallam County to help veterans in need.

“One hundred percent of the proceeds are going to the local veterans association for veteran education, housing food and  close to anything we can think of,” said Pennell.
