Man burned, family displaced after RV catches fire in Sequim

SEQUIM — A man suffered burn injuries in an RV fire in Sequim early Wednesday.

Crews were called to 740 West Washington just after midnight, where they found smoke coming from the door of a 34-foot Bounder RV.

Sequim Police attended to the 38-year-old man with burn injuries to his legs, while a 37-year-old woman climbed out of a back window. All occupants, including four children aged 9-12, safely exited the RV, which served as their primary residence.

A neighbor used a garden hose to combat the fire, which Engine 34 crews fully extinguished. The fire remained confined to the RV’s exterior.

Medics transported the injured man to Olympic Medical Center for second-degree burns, and he was later transferred to Harborview Medical Center for further treatment.

Officials say the fire started when the man discarded cigarette ashes outside a window, igniting cardboard boxes and trash below.
