Sequim high jumper headed to national Junior Olympics

GRESHAM, OR — Sequim sophomore Clare Turella, also known as the “Dungeness Kangaroo”, has leaped her way from the Junior Olympics Regional in Gresham, Oregon, to the Junior Olympic Championships in College Station, Texas.

Turella cleared 5’1″ in the high jump at the Junior Olympics Region 13 event, placing first among 21 other jumpers in her age group. She will now compete at the Junior Olympic Championships in College Station, Texas, from August 22nd to 28th.

Turella, who won the WIAA State 2A High Jump Championship for Sequim High School, is being coached by her club coaches Martha Mendenhall and Ten Gordon.
