Brush fire at Rayonier Plant successfully doused

PORT ANGELES – There was another brush fire in the Port Angeles area this week, this time at the Rayonier Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The Port Angeles Fire Department was dispatched to the area of 700 N. Ennis at about 5:30am Wednesday. Crews found a quarter-acre slow moving brush fire extending up the embankment towards Harborcrest Drive.

Port Angeles Fire Marshal Joel McKeen told KONP the units on scene were able to contain the fire, with no involvement to nearby structures. The total response included 20 personnel from Port Angeles Fire, Olympic Ambulance, Clallam County Fire District 2 and the Department of Natural Resources.

No injuries were reported, an estimate of loss is to be determined later, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

McKeen added that the Port Angeles Fire Department and Clallam County Fire District 2 have seen an increase in fire behavior and have responded to numerous brush fires within the last week. Because conditions are so dry, he says people should remain vigilant, avoiding possible causes of ignition.
