OLYMPIA — As the 2024 wildfire season begins, the Washington Department of Ecology has launched an improved air quality monitoring map. The map, now more user-friendly on smartphones and tablets, can be downloaded to devices or desktop computers.
With data from over 80 statewide monitoring stations, the map provides real-time, accurate information using a color-coded Air Quality Index (AQI). It tracks particle pollution, ozone, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur dioxide levels, and offers a five-day forecast for wildfire smoke impact.
New features include local air quality data for 16 communities, a list of monitoring sites, a seven-day air quality trend graph, historical data since 2007, burn ban information, and improved accessibility for visually-impaired users.
