12-hour stand off leads to arrest in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — A man was arrested after a nearly 12-hour standoff that began with a police chase on Hwy 101.

Port Angeles Police Department (PAPD) officers attempted to stop the suspect around 7:15 a.m. Sunday after linking him to an overdue person report and an assault. The suspect fled, leading officers on a pursuit that wound along Black Diamond Road and finally ended at 16th and Pine, where he brandished a shotgun.

Law enforcement, including Clallam County Deputies, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and other agencies, contained the area and evacuated nearby homes. Crisis negotiators spent hours trying to secure the suspect’s surrender.

After negotiations and the use of gas rounds, 43-year-old Daniel Patrick Jacobs was taken into custody at 6:45 p.m. He was booked on charges including felony elude and assault, with additional charges pending.

PAPD Detectives obtained search warrants and the original person of interest in the overdue party case was found safe and sound by CCSO deputies.
