PORT ANGELES — A Clallam County resident lost over $20,000 in a recent email scam.
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office reports the victim received a fraudulent message claiming to be from “Norton Antivirus,” which falsely stated that money had been deducted for a subscription renewal. After contacting the scammers, the victim unknowingly gave them access to their computer, leading to the financial loss.
Detectives traced the perpetrators to India but have faced challenges in recovering the stolen funds. Authorities warn that retrieving money from such scams is nearly impossible and urge residents to stay vigilant.
