LOCAL SPORTS: PA’s Gladfelter continues running away at college, PC grabs prized transfer hoopster

UNDATED — Former Roughrider cross-country star Jack Gladfelter has been named the Cascade Collegiate Conference Runner of the Week. Gladfelter and Corban College finished in second place at the Linfield Harrier Classic, competing against eight other schools, including Division I schools such as Portland University.

Gladfelter broke the school’s 6K record, finishing second with a time of 18:28.13. Corban College is currently ranked 22nd in the nation.

Peninsula Pirates women’s basketball coach Allison Crumb traveled to Saginaw, Michigan, to secure a commitment from 6’3″ post player Alecsis Smith from Division II Delta College in University Center, Michigan. Smith could be the most talented recruit to ever wear a Pirates uniform. Last year, as a freshman, Smith averaged 19 points per game (ppg) and 13 rebounds per game (rpg).

During her four years at Central Bay High School, Smith broke 12 school records. In her senior year, she averaged 16 ppg and 15 rpg, with a game high of 31 rebounds against Midland High School.

The 2024 high school football season starts this Friday night, with Sequim hosting Forks at 7 p.m. Port Angeles will travel to Deming for a 7 p.m. kickoff against Mount Baker. You can hear that game right here on Newsradio KONP.

The following Friday night, Newsradio KONP will broadcast Sequim’s home game against Franklin Pierce.
