PORT ANGELES — Both NWAC number one-ranked Peninsula Pirates soccer teams secured wins against Skagit Valley last night.
The Pirate women’s team pulled off a comeback, scoring twice in the final 15 minutes to clinch a 3-2 victory. After falling behind in the 35th minute, Shiori Shintaku equalized at 1-1. Trailing 2-1 in the 75th minute, Lauren Lases leveled the game again, and in the 86th minute, with an assist from Serayah Gooler, Lases scored the winning goal. The Pirates defeated the eighth-ranked Cardinals. Former Roughriders Anna Petty (Peninsula) and Paige Mason (Cardinals) both started and played the entire game.

The Peninsula men’s team had a smoother match, shutting out 10th-ranked Skagit Valley 4-0, with all goals coming in the second half. Joshua Kanyere netted his first career goal in the 48th minute, assisted by Issei Fujiwara. Ezrah Ochoa added his fifth goal of the season two minutes later for a 2-0 lead. Nil Grau extended the lead to 3-0 in the 56th minute with his 14th career goal. Edwin Diaz wrapped up the scoring with his first career goal in the 67th minute.

The Pirates travel to Edmonds on Saturday, with the women kicking off the doubleheader at noon.
