Two Injured in Crash Near 7 Cedars Casino

BLYN – Two people were hurt Friday afternoon in a crash near 7 Cedars Casino when an SUV failed to yield and was struck by a semi-truck, according to the Washington State Patrol. The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. when Katherine Melcer, 46, of Sequim, attempted to turn onto Highway 101 but didn’t yield to an eastbound semi-truck.

Troopers say Melcer was taken to Olympic Medical Center with minor injuries, while her passenger, Teresa Riley, 44, was seriously injured and airlifted to Harborview Medical Center.

The driver of the semi-truck, 23-year-old Collin Jacobs of Shelton, was not injured. His truck had minimal damage, while Melcer’s Toyota Highlander was totaled. The State Patrol is investigating the crash, which they say was caused by Melcer’s failure to yield. Melcer was cited for DUI and vehicular assault.

The crash, response and investigation backed up traffic on Highway 101 for miles Friday afternoon.
