PORT ANGELES – The Port of Port Angeles Board of Commissioners is expected on Tuesday to move forward with the proposed lease agreement with Amazon to build a 35,000 square foot warehouse and distribution facility on Airport Road.
Amazon wants a 15 year lease with another 50 years of renewable options to build on a little more than 8 acres of usable land surrounded by about an acre of mitigation and buffer area at 2100 S. Airport Road in the North Airport Industrial Park.
There was some concern about the property’s buffer area needing an environmental impact review and approval from the City and the state Dept. of Ecology, but the City approved with conditions Amazon’s Wetland Permit Application and Ecology did not appeal that decision, so the plan can move ahead.
The company’s intention is to have the lease go into effect this month and wrap up construction sometime in May of next year. The facility is expected to employ up to 70 people.
