LOCAL SPORTS: PA wins, Sequim loses in soccer

PORT ANGELES — In soccer action, the 5-3 Port Angeles Roughriders took care of business, shutting out North Mason 4-0. Morgan Politika opened the scoring in the 6th minute with an assist from Lilly Anne Lancaster. At the 36th minute, Stella Fradkin scored with an assist from Audry Rudd. Mariah Traband added another goal in the 38th minute, assisted by Fradkin, bringing the halftime score to 3-0. Teanna Clark sealed the win with a free kick from 25 yards out in the 66th minute, making the final score 4-0. The Roughriders face a big game Thursday at home against Bainbridge.

It was like the movie “Groundhog Day” for the Sequim Wolves, as they once again lost to Kingston in penalty kicks, 5-4. The Wolves took a 2-0 lead in the first half with goals from Bella Rich and Ruby Horgan. However, Kingston scored two goals in the last 10 minutes, sending the game into overtime. The Wolves are now 3-5 in league play, trailing the 5-3 Port Angeles team for fourth place in the Olympic League. Sequim hosts North Mason Thursday night.

In volleyball action, Sequim swept Kingston 3-0, while North Mason swept 1-7 Port Angeles 3-0.

In tennis, Port Angeles travels to North Kitsap, and Sequim heads to Olympic, with both matches starting at 4:00 p.m.

In swimming, Port Angeles travels to Bainbridge, and East Jefferson visits Sequim. Both meets begin at 3:30 p.m.

The Peninsula Pirates women’s soccer team is now ranked No. 1 in the nation, while the men’s team holds the No. 3 spot. The Pirates host Skagit Valley today, with the men kicking off at 2:00 p.m. and the women at 4:15 p.m.
