SEQUIM – For the first time since 2018, the Sequim Wolves football team will compete in the district playoffs. The Wolves secured their Olympic League fourth-place bid with a decisive 35-7 victory over North Mason on Thursday night. Now 5-4, the Wolves will face the 8-1 WF West Bearcats on Saturday at WF West High School in Chehalis, with kickoff set for noon. The Bearcats are led by quarterback Gage Brumfield, who has committed to Eastern Washington University. The game will be broadcast on KONP Newsradio.

In tennis, congratulations to Port Angeles Roughriders seniors Nathan Basden and Luke Flodstrom, who claimed the District Doubles Championship with a 7-6, 6-3 win over North Kitsap. Austin Worthington and Keatyn Hoch also had a strong showing, going 3-2 before a narrow loss in their final match, which would have secured a spot at state. Tate Alton, capping an outstanding career, finished 0-2.

In district soccer, the Sequim Wolves ended their season with a 1-0 loss at Eatonville. Meanwhile, the Port Angeles Roughriders dominated Franklin Pierce, 7-0. Kedryn DeScala scored her second hat trick of the season and added an assist. Ava Anne Sheahan, Brooke Pierce, Teanna Clark, and Mariah Traband also scored for the Roughriders, who now hold a 9-7 record and will face the 15-1 Bainbridge Spartans tomorrow night at Bainbridge, with kickoff at 7 p.m. The Spartans previously defeated the Roughriders twice this season, 2-0 and 5-0.

The Roughriders swim team will send 10 athletes to the district tournament this Friday and Saturday at the Mount Tahoma Aquatic Center. Junior Lynzee Reid, who took first in diving and the 200 IM at the Olympic League meet, leads a strong Roughriders squad under legendary coach Sally Cole.

In college basketball, former Roughrider and Peninsula Pirate Millie Long made history in her debut for Division II powerhouse University of Alaska Anchorage. In a 103-24 win over Simpson University, Long set the Seawolves’ record for steals with 11 and added 21 points.

In the NWAC women’s basketball season-opening poll, the Peninsula Pirates are ranked third, with Lane College in Eugene, Oregon, taking the top spot. Peninsula will face Lane on November 22, and you can hear that game on KONP Newsradio.
