The Sequim Wolves, now 4-0, celebrated last night’s 76-48 win at North Mason

BAINBRIDGE — Last night in high school basketball action, local teams went 1-3, with two of those losses coming in heartbreakers.
In a game broadcast on KONP Newsradio, the Port Angeles boys took a commanding 21-point lead midway through the third quarter against Bainbridge. However, turnovers and missed free throws allowed the Spartans to tie the game on a buzzer-beating shot, forcing overtime. Bainbridge emerged victorious, 71-66. Senior point guard Gus Halberg led the Roughriders with 20 points, senior forward Keatyn Hoch added 19, senior guard Blake Sohlberg contributed 11, and 6’9″ sophomore Brock Hope scored 8 points. Port Angeles, now 1-2, will host undefeated Olympic (5-0) on Friday. Olympic stunned North Kitsap last night with a 63-62 victory.

The Roughrider girls dropped to 1-3 after a 48-38 home loss to Bainbridge. They’ll travel to Olympic on Friday night.

The Sequim girls squandered a 20-9 halftime lead and fell to North Mason, 38-34. Bobbi Mixon led the Wolves with 10 points, senior forward Libby Turella added 9 points and 12 rebounds, and Hailey Wagoner scored 5 points with 10 rebounds. The Wolves struggled from the floor, shooting just 10-for-55 (18%).

The Sequim boys remained undefeated at 4-0 with a commanding 76-48 win at North Mason. Jericho Julmist led all scorers with 31 points, followed by Charlie Grider with 11 points and Solomon Sheppard with 9. Brayden White and Jamison Gray each contributed 7 points, Mason Rapelje added 5, Ethan Melnick scored 4, and Hunter Tennell chipped in 2. The Wolves host Bainbridge (2-2) on Friday, with live coverage of the boys’ game at 5:15 p.m. and the girls’ game at 7:00 p.m. on KONP Newsradio.

The Wolves will host Bainbridge on Friday night and will need to contend with Spartan guard Luke Johnson, who scored 28 points against Port Angeles.

In bowling, the Port Angeles team was swept 7-0 by state powerhouse Klahowya. High games for the Roughriders came from Zoey Van Gordon (141), Lizzy Clark (138), Xoey Penn (142), and Ivy Powless, who rolled a season-high 140. They’ll host Olympic on Thursday.

The Port Angeles boys swim team opens their season today at home against Klahowya, with the meet starting at 3:00 p.m.
