SEQUIM — The Sequim School District is putting two measures before voters in a special election this February.
One measure is a $146million construction bond. The second is a $36 million educational programs and operations (EP&O) levy renewal.
The construction bond, requiring 60% voter approval, includes plans to replace Helen Haller Elementary School, modernize Sequim High School with new instructional wings, upgrade safety measures, and improve facilities at all district schools. Greywolf Elementary would gain a cafeteria, and athletic fields would be renovated to accommodate playoff games and regional events. The proposal also includes building a new transportation center to replace the current ageing facility.
The levy renewal, requiring a simple majority, would continue funding for programs such as music, extracurricular activities, counseling, and transportation.
If approved, the bond and levy would cost property owners $1.85 per $1,000 of assessed value annually.
