PORT ANGELES — North Olympic Peninsula residents should stay weather-aware Wednesday afternoon and evening as thunderstorms develop across Western Washington. Storms are expected to hit the Port Angeles area around 6 PM, bringing a chance of gusty winds, lightning, and brief heavy downpours.
The National Weather Service forecasts a 30-50% chance of thunderstorms, with the primary threats being hail and strong winds. There is a 15-30% chance of severe hail (greater than 1 inch in diameter) and a lower probability (5-14%) of severe wind gusts exceeding 58 mph. The risk of a tornado is low but not zero for western Washington.
Forecasters say although the highest risk of severe weather is expected farther south and east, Port Angeles and Sequim could still experience weather conditions more severe than usually seen here.
