Reserve Lodging Tax funds to be awarded in Port Angeles

Port Angeles – Each year, the Port Angeles Lodging Tax Advisory Committee decides which organizations will get grants to fund their activities, how much they’ll get, and which ones don’t make the cut. Money collected from hotel/motel customers in 2024 has already been allocated, but there was almost a quarter of a million dollars left over in reserve.

Now, a big chunk of that reserve is about to make some of those organizations that were underfunded or overlooked completely in the original budget very happy.

The City Council is expected this week to approve the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee’s recommendation to use $163,000 from excess lodging tax fund reserves for 11 applications that didn’t get as much as they were hoping for or were skipped over altogether.

The biggest winner: Port Angeles Youth Basketball, overlooked in the first round, will be awarded $90,000. Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports, which originally got only about half of the $39,000 they requested, will get the balance of nearly $19,000 this time around.

Other big winners in this new allocation of funds include Port Angeles Marathon Associations, North Olympic Baseball and Softball, and Lincoln Street Block Party.
