PORT ANGELES — In high school baseball action, in a game broadcast on KONP Newsradio, the Port Angeles Roughriders and Sequim Wolves delivered another nail-biter, with fans sitting on the edge of their seats throughout. For the second night in a row, it was the road team coming away with the victory, as the Sequim Wolves came from behind to edge Port Angeles 5-4. The game ended in dramatic fashion when Wolves catcher Lincoln Bear tagged out a Roughrider runner at home plate for the final out.
The Wolves struck first when Devyn Dearinger was hit by a pitch and later scored on a Roughrider error. Roughrider shortstop Alex Angevine, just as he had the night before, led off the game with a walk and scored on a pair of Sequim errors to tie it at 1-1. Port Angeles then regained the lead when Nathan Basden singled, stole second, and scored on a fielder’s choice.
In the fifth inning, Basden did it again—singling, stealing second, and scoring from third on another fielder’s choice to make it 3-1 in favor of the Roughriders. But that same inning unraveled quickly for Port Angeles. Sequim’s Zeke Schmadeke, Brayden White, and Simon Scribner all crossed the plate, helped by two Roughrider walks, two errors, and a timely single by Ethan Staples, giving the Wolves a 4-3 lead.
Sequim extended the lead to 5-3 in the sixth when Hunter Tennell singled and eventually came around to score. The Roughriders tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh. Alex Angevine led off with a single, stole second, and later scored to bring Port Angeles within one. With two outs and the tying run on third, reliever Brayden White threw a wild pitch. The runner broke for home, but Lincoln Bear made the play of the game, tagging him out by inches to seal the win. The Wolves erupted in a wild celebration, reminiscent of the Florida Gators’ dogpile earlier in the week. Zeke Schmadeke pitched five strong innings with five strikeouts, and Brayden White picked up the save.

In boys soccer, the Roughriders came away with a 2-1 win over Sequim. The Wolves struck quickly, scoring just two minutes into the match on a goal from Sebastian Buhrer. Port Angeles tied it up in the 27th minute when Matthew Miller found the far post after a great pass from Grant Butterworth. Miller then scored the game-winner in the 35th minute off another excellent assist, this time from Kanyon Anderson. Roughrider head coach Chris Saari credited goalkeeper Gus Halberg for shutting out Sequim in the second half. With the win, Port Angeles moves into third place in the Olympic League with a 4-2 record.

Makkhia Stevens went 3-for-3 with an RBI, Ava Anne Sheahan was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Abby Kimball went 2-for-2 with four RBIs.
The Roughriders are back in action today as they travel to Sequim for a rematch, with first pitch scheduled for 4:15. Looking ahead, Sequim will host state powerhouse North Kitsap on Monday, with that game also airing on KONP Newsradio.
