PORT ANGELES — A missing 10-year-old boy, Mason Combs, has been found safe after an extensive overnight search effort that brought together multiple law enforcement agencies, search and rescue teams, and community volunteers.
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office received a call at approximately 9:27 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, reporting Mason missing from a residence near Mile Post 256 on Highway 101, close to Blue Mountain Road. According to deputies, Mason had been playing with friends but failed to return home in time to take his medication. His medical condition prompted an urgent and immediate response.
Initial efforts by deputies to locate the boy in the nearby area and home were unsuccessful. Search operations escalated quickly with the deployment of drone teams from Clallam and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Offices, and the activation of Clallam County Search and Rescue (SAR).
By Wednesday morning, search efforts intensified significantly with support from agencies across the region. Teams from Jefferson, Island, Pierce, and King Counties joined the mission, along with the United States Border Patrol, Washington State Departments of Fish and Wildlife and Natural Resources, and Olympic Mountain Rescue. Specialized K-9 units, drone teams, and a helicopter from the King County Sheriff’s Office also aided in the search.
A total of 44 volunteers participated in the operation.
At approximately 12:47 p.m. on Wednesday, Mason was found unharmed in a surprising location: a doll playhouse on the front porch of the family residence. Although the structure had been searched multiple times, authorities believe Mason may have intentionally avoided detection.
Sheriff Brian King expressed gratitude for the coordinated efforts and the overwhelming community support.
