Update: Vessel out of Neah Bay found, boaters still missing

NEAH BAY — The Coast Guard says a missing boat out of Neah Bay was located on Thursday, but the 3 people on board are still missing.

The boaters departed Neah Bay at around 8 a.m. Wednesday morning and were supposed to return at around 8 p.m. that night, but the families reported they didn’t show up. A search for the missing boat was launched Wednesday night/Thursday morning.

The Coast Guard’s Daylan Garlic told KONP the boat was found capsized off the coast of Koitlah Point on Thursday morning, but there was “no sign” of the three people who were supposed to be on board. The search for them continues.

Garlic did not share the identities of the people who were on board.

The Coast Guard said multiple stations, including Neah Point, Port Angeles, Astoria, Sacramento, the Coast Guard Cutter Blue Shark, the Makah Tribal Police, Washington Fish & Wildlife and the Washington State Patrol are assisting with the search.

Vessels traveling through the area are requested to keep a sharp lookout for the boaters and report any signs of distress.

Anyone with information who may be able to help the Coast Guard in their search is asked to call the U.S. Coast Guard Command Center at 206-217-6001.
