PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College Pirates athletic department has been busy securing soccer talent from around the globe. The Pirate men’s team traveled to Bonn, Germany, where they signed Max Pieper and Oskar Koelle, followed by Clemens Bordewiek out of Hamburg. They also added Mateo Skinner from Reno, Nevada, and went in-state to sign Shane Skette of Cascade High School in Leavenworth. Closer to home, they picked up goalkeeper Nolan Valenzuela from Sequim in the Dungeness Valley.

On the women’s side, Peninsula signed Layla Bejar from Auburn Riverside and Auzie Eaton of Kentridge High School.

In high school tennis action, state powerhouse Bainbridge swept Port Angeles 7-0.

On the golf course, the Port Angeles boys posted a huge win over North Kitsap, beating the Vikings 173-181.
Sky Gelder led the Riders with an impressive 32, followed by Austin Worthington and Tate Alton with 43s. Cale Wentz carded a 45, Max Gagnon a 46, and Noah Myers rounded it out with a 51.

The Roughrider girls also moved closer to a league title, topping North Kitsap 213-242.
Mia Neff and Claire Osterberg each shot 51, Autumn Wilson Rowland shot a 53, Malena Marquez a 58, Layla Parker a 63, and Lainey Rudd a 70. The team heads to Bremerton today with a 3:00 tee time.
Sequim’s girls golf team continued their winning streak with a 215-248 victory over Olympic. Representing the Wolves were Raimey Brewer, Sara German, Ella Hood, Kaiya Robinson, Brooke Piersoll, and Rachel McDougal.

In baseball, Port Angeles split a home doubleheader with Olympic.
In game one, Jordan Shumay’s two-run double put the Riders up early. Olympic tied the game in the sixth, but Port Angeles responded with three runs in their half of the inning, highlighted by hits from Trey Hannah and well-executed suicide squeezes by Bryce Deleon and Nathan Basden. Luke Flodstrom added a key ground ball RBI. Kody Williams pitched six strong innings, allowing just two runs on three hits.

Port Angeles’ Jordan Shumay gave the Roughriders an early lead with a two-run double in the first inning against Olympic.
In a makeup game against Bainbridge, the Spartans edged Port Angeles 6-5, breaking a late tie.
Sequim fell to Bainbridge 10-2. The Wolves and Riders are both on the road today—Sequim heads back to Bainbridge, and Port Angeles travels to Olympic. First pitch for both is at 4:15.

In girls fastpitch today, Sequim travels to North Mason with first pitch at 4:15.

The Sequim Wolves fastpitch team travels to North Mason today to take on Jenna Markuson and the Bulldogs. The teams will meet again tomorrow in Sequim, with the game broadcast on KONP Newsradio.
