ORTING — With the way the Port Angeles Roughrider baseball team beat Orting 14-3 Friday afternoon in Orting, Roughriders Athletic Director Dwayne Johnson might want to have the Roughriders play all their games in the shadow of Mount Rainier!
The Roughriders exploded for 14 runs on 12 hits in just the second and third innings, overwhelming an Orting team that had been ranked in the top 10 for most of the season. Roughrider pitcher Hunter Statford threw a three-inning gem, allowing just three hits and one run to pick up the victory.
It seemed like every Roughrider had a hand in the win. Kody Williams smashed a three-run triple in the fourth inning. Catcher Luke Floodstrom collected two singles, drew two walks, and scored twice. Left fielder Nathan Basden chipped in with two singles, a walk, and also scored two runs. Shortstop Alex Angevine stayed busy with two singles, two walks, two stolen bases, and scored two more. Right fielder Trae Hanan added two singles, a walk, and crossed the plate twice. Third baseman Josiah Gooding singled, walked, and scored a run as well.
Orting came into the matchup with an 11-3 record and had just knocked off Sequim 13-7 a week ago, but they had no answers for the Roughriders’ offensive surge.

Roughrider pitcher Hunter Stratford was outstanding in Port Angeles’ 14-3 win over Orting, as he discussed during the KONP postgame show.

The Roughriders will be big favorites heading into a home-and-home series against Bremerton, hosting the Knights on Tuesday before traveling to Bremerton on Wednesday. Wednesday’s game will be broadcast live right here on KONP Newsradio.
