BAINBRIDGE — In the girls fastpitch game of the night broadcast here on KONP Newsradio, the Sequim Wolves kept their playoff hopes alive by shelling Bainbridge 20-10 in six innings.

Tied 6-6 in the fourth inning, the Wolves exploded for 13 runs on seven hits to take a commanding 19-6 lead.  Senior third baseman Mia Kirner led the way with a triple, two doubles, and three runs scored. Junior left fielder Kylie Winter reached base four times, collecting a single and a double while scoring three runs. Senior center fielder Hannah Giddings added three singles and scored twice, while junior shortstop Ava Ritter reached base three times, scored two runs, and made several key defensive plays.  Pitcher Rilyn Whitehead contributed three singles and scored three runs. Right fielder Grace Gardner doubled, walked, and scored a run.  Pitcher Mickey Greene chipped in with two singles, two walks, and three runs scored. Catcher Rylie Doig also had a single, a walk, and scored two runs.

The story of the night was exchange student Manuela Valle Jover from Spain, who had never played softball before joining the Wolves. She thrilled her teammates by collecting two hits and scoring a run, sending the Wolves’ dugout into a frenzy each time.

Manuela Valle Jover of Spain, seen here on the KONP Newsradio postgame show, had never played fastpitch softball before but served as an emotional spark for the Wolves against Bremerton last night.

Meanwhile, in Silverdale, Olympic defeated Port Angeles 11-9.  For the Roughriders, Abby Kimball and Lexie Smith each hit home runs. Morgan Politika singled, stole two bases, and scored twice. Mariah Traband singled and drove in a run.

It was also a big day for golf at the Olympic League Championships in Poulsbo.  For Port Angeles, Cale Wentz finished fourth overall and qualified for State.
Kolby Charles, Sky Gelder, Noah Myers, and Austin Worthington all qualified for the district tournament.

The Sequim Wolves boys golf team is also competing at the Olympic League championships.

On the girls’ side for Sequim, Raimey Brewer led the Wolves by shooting a 98 to qualify for State, while Sara German and Chloe Tweter each shot 107s and Kendra Dodson shot at a 109 to qualify for districts.

Representing Sequim at the Olympic League golf championships are Rachel McDougal, Raimey Brewer, Sara German, Kendra Dodson, Chloe Tweter, Kaiya Robinson, and Ella Hood.

Tonight’s schedule includes baseball action with Port Angeles hosting Bremerton and Sequim hosting North Kitsap, both games starting at 4:15.
