PORT ANGELES — The City of Port Angeles is earning major recognition for its work on housing.
Port Angeles has received the Implementation Award from the Washington Chapter of the American Planning Association and the Planning Association of Washington.
The award honors the city’s “Pursuing Housing for All” initiative — a plan to tackle housing shortages by cutting red tape, boosting density, and making it easier and cheaper to build a wide range of homes.
Key changes included streamlining permits, eliminating fees for more than 15 types of housing, and rewriting city codes to make them simpler and more homeowner-friendly.
Community and Economic Development Manager Shannen Cartmel says the award is a validation of the city’s commitment to making housing more affordable, equitable, and accessible for all residents.
Port Angeles joins SeaTac, Spokane, Kent, and Tacoma as an award recipient.
