Brinnon – A 59-year-old Jefferson County man is in custody, charged with vehicular homicide and DUI after trying to make a U-turn in the path of a motorcycle rider on Highway 101 Sunday.
State troopers say Russel Mikeal was traveling northbound near Brinnon in the 7:pm hour when he pulled off of the highway onto the shoulder, then quickly made a U-turn in front of 49-year-old Kevin Lewis of Quilcene.
Lewis’ motorcycle collided at a high rate of speed into Mikeal’s pickup and was ejected from his bike. Troopers say the two vehicles became entangled and burst into flames and came to rest in the southbound shoulder, fully engulfed.
Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene. Mikeal was arrested on initial charges of vehicular homicide and DUI.
