Clallam Races Take Shape as Candidate Filings Roll In

PORT ANGELES — Tuesday brought a flurry of candidate filings in Clallam County, setting up several contested races for the 2025 election.

Allen Sawyer filed to challenge incumbent Steve Burke for Port of Port Angeles Commissioner District 2, turning it into a two-person race.

In Port Angeles, Gilbert Hall filed for City Council Position 1 against incumbent LaTrisha Suggs, while Tyler Slater joined the Position 2 race, facing Drew Schwab.

In Sequim, Councilmember Brandon Janisse filed for re-election to Position 5, and Patrice Johnston became the first candidate to file for Sequim School Board Director District 2. Maren Halvorsen remains unopposed for the at-large Position 4.

The Port Angeles School Board will see a race for Director Position 2 between Mary Hebert and Nancy Hamilton.

The filing period closes Friday, May 9 at 5 p.m., with more candidates expected.
