Sequim Police Continue Assault Investigation After Victim Dies; Suspect Released Without Charges

SEQUIM – Sequim Police say they’re continuing to investigate an alleged assault incident last week.

It happened near the Safeway gas pumps along West Washington May 6 about 12:30 pm. 36-year-old Aaron Fisher of Port Townsend was arrested at the scene and booked at Clallam County Jail on second degree assault.

70-year-old Richard G. Madeo was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center and reportedly passed away on Thursday.

Fisher was arrested at the scene. According to police reports, Fisher said he acted in self-defense when he hit Madeo, causing him to fall and hit his head. In Superior Court Friday, Fisher was exonerated of the charges and released without bail.

But Sequim Detective Sergeant Darrel Nelson said in a prepared release yesterday, the investigation remains active and ongoing, and detectives are working with the King County Medical Examiner’s Office. They are also combing over surveillance video near the scene.
