PORT ANGELES — In local high school golf, the Port Angeles Roughriders are sending five athletes to the state tournament.

On the girls’ side, Claire Osterberg qualified for her fourth state appearance after shooting a 101 at districts, while Mia Neff earned her first state trip with a 104. Autumn Wilson Rowland had already punched her ticket to state ahead of the district meet.

For the boys, Cole Wentz and Austin Worthington will represent Port Angeles at state. Worthington shot an 82 to finish fifth overall.

The five Roughriders who competed at the district golf tournament were Noah Myers, Sky Gelder, Kolby Charles, Austin Worthington, and Cale Wentz

Sequim’s Chloe Tweter also qualified, along with Adrian Aragon, who placed third with a strong round of 80.

In fastpitch, the Sequim Wolves wrapped up their regular season with a 10–2 win over Bainbridge. It was the final home game for seniors Grace Gardner, Hannah Giddings, Mickey Green, and Mia Kirner. The Wolves now head to Lacey for the district tournament, opening at 10 a.m. Friday against a tough Fife team that’s 14–7. They’ll aim to slow down Trojan standout Mallory Geving, who enters with a .491 batting average, 28 hits, 24 RBIs, nine doubles, and four triples.

Coming off a 10–2 win over Bainbridge, Mia Kirner and her Wolves will face Fife at 10 a.m. Friday in Lacey.

Port Angeles locked up the Olympic League title with a win over Kingston earlier this week. That also earned the Roughriders a first-round bye in the district tournament. They’ll play the winner of North Mason vs. Washington at noon Friday.

In college soccer, the Peninsula Pirates men’s team has signed Sohta Takemura from Kobe, Japan.

Today on the Todd Ortloff Show at 1:30, it’s Millie Long Day. The former Port Angeles and Peninsula College star will announce which NCAA Division I school she’ll transfer to after receiving an extra year of eligibility. Long had a record-setting, All-American season at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
